ONE HELL OF A YEAR - 2014 in retrospective

This year we celebrated the 5th year together as a band and what a year it was indeed! 2014 turned out to be a year full of surprises for us. We didn't play as many shows as before, but the shows we did were pretty epic! The shows we had with the Cro-Mags and Negative Approach felt unbelievable and unreal. The shows we had in Turku and the ones we had this fall in Oulu and Joensuu were intense as hell - even with all the problems we had with the broken kickdrum! Thanks to everyone who participated in making them so memorable - the promoters, the bands and the people who went crazy in the pit. I am in your debt. You made me dislike my life a little less.

This year we focused on finishing the LP we've been working on since "What I've Seen" came out. The album is now in mixing and it should be out some time before the summer of 2015. Via whom, we don't know yet. If you're interested in helping us with getting the son of a bitch out, get in touch.

Let's see what 2015 throws in front of us. Hopefully more shows, more cities and more countries. If you have any leads on where we could play or if you're interested in booking us to your club/show/house, email me. After we get the LP out, we're eager to get it to as far away as possible - most preferably with us in a van.

"Making come true our modest impossible dreams.."

Hello there.

I could say that this summer has sure been a quiet one, at least from this band's point of view. Let me share a few words about this year: the things that have happened and the things that are about to happen.

As some of you may recall, this year marked the fifth anniversary of that magical evening that can also be called our first rehearsals. It's funny how things sometimes go. This band was supposed to be just a funny side project but here we are, five years later, making a full-length album that's as serious as one can be. Unlike those first rehearsals or that drunken demo tape we did later that year, this one includes no funny business. At all. But yeah, the show we had at Ilokivi this year was very nice. The pit even had some flying chairs and tables in it. That's something you don't see too often here in Finland!

A month later we played Ilokivi again, this time at the legendary club festival called Jyrock and it was a blast. Also, quite an honor to be there representing our hometown and the whole punk rock thing. Probably something people didn't expect though but that's the case with us: we want to surprise people. For me the show was pretty special for the fact that in between songs I got to read some of my self-written poems. For the first time ever. It made the whole experience a lot different. After the show we had a couple of interviews, one of them can be viewed below (spoken in finnish).

And then there was that one show at Kuudes Linja, Helsinki. Oh shit, where do I even begin? Well, during the first time this band performed on stage, Santeri and Temsu took off their sweaters and realized they both wore a Cro-Mags t-shirt underneath. I guess that alone says a bit, heh..

But for me it wasn't just about seeing them live and sharing the stage with them - it was about the friendship between us, Upright (who, if you didn't know, also played there and happen to be the best fucking band in Finland hardcore-wise) and the show's promoters Samuli, Jaakko and Mikko, who also come from Central Finland. When we were starting out as little kids, going to our first punk/hardcore shows together and then booking our own first shows for our own shitty bands, we sure as hell didn't know it would go this far. And for that I'm truly grateful. After the show we we even got invited to Bassoradio where we had a chat with Ina Mikkola, got to play our favorite bands on finnish radiowaves and fool around in the studio with John Joseph and the guys from Upright. Even when talking about it afterwards like this, the whole night still feels a bit unreal. If Total Recall died right now, I would be more than satisfied..

...but of course, we're not gonna stop moving just yet. Still lots of things to do and see. The LP is starting to be in shape and hopefully we can get it out before the end of this year. If you have a label and think you could help us with the damn thing, get in touch! We might have some demo tracks for you, too.

We're about to record the yet-to-be-named album after this summer and right now it contains about 11 tracks. The video below includes one of them.

As for shows, we're playing this little festival called Kadun Kieli in Jokela, Finland on Saturday the 19th of July. For more info about other artists and such, visit the festival's Facebook-page or their website.

We don't have anything else right now, but the table is set and the urge to tour is HUGE. So, if you'd like to see us at your city/hometown, hook us up with contacts and we'll try our best to get there! We already have some touring plans for 2015, but nothing worth mentioning yet. We're looking forward to play in as many new cities/countries as we can though. Let's hope for the best.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves and keep your eyes and ears open. Lots of good things are about to come.

A few shows added

We were supposed to play at Järvenpää this weekend, but the bar had some sort of water damage or something, so they had to cancel the show. Oh well. Sometimes shit happens.

So Järvenpää got cancelled, but we also have a couple of new shows coming up! Here's what the calendar looks like at the moment:

14.3. Jyväskylä, Ilokivi (w/ Kurouma, Synti, Warchief, Slack Bird)

Our next show will be here in Jyväskylä. We will celebrate our 5-year-anniversary there. Some old stuff coming up! Other bands include the Stoner/Sludge band Warchief (with whom we share a rehearsal space with), Sludge/Doom band Kurouma, Synti (Temsu's crust/grind band) and Slack Bird (Folk punk from Jyväskylä). An interesting line up, so to speak.

14.3. Jyväskylä, JYROCK -festival
Jyrock is one of the oldest (if not the oldest?) indoor festival in Finland and we're pretty psyched to be one of the bands playing there this year. It will also be in Ilokivi, but instead of just using the downstairs' club space, the festival takes advantage of the whole building & area of the venue. Other artists include many interesting indie-artists, such as Jenny Wilson, Black Twig and Ruger Hauer.

Yeah, Turku! From what I heard, the venue is some sort of a café/bar where all the hip people of Turku go to. I also heard this would be the venue's first hardcore/punk show ever, so I bet things will get interesting. Can't wait.

HARD TIMES ARE COMING YOUR WAY

Now this is something we're VERY excited about! On April the 27th we're going to play a show with our best friends, UPRIGHT, and one of the greatest hardcore bands ever: the CRO-MAGS. Their European tour consists of only 8 shows, with only two shows in Scandinavia. The show will happen at Kuudes Linja, Helsinki. I think the venue can hold like 300-400 people inside, so it's certainly gonna be pretty intense. Get your tickets from the link below, 'cause this will most likely sell out. Jumping the gun for 2014

Hello everyone.

We said we wouldn't play any more shows this year, but it seems like the urge to get back on stage is getting way too big to handle for all of us, so.. This is what's going to happen:

On December the 7th we're playing this crossover-show at our hometown Jyväskylä. It will be the afterparty for a skateboarding competition that will happen at the local indoor skatepark earlier the same day. The bill has the heshers of Baltimor, a bunch of rappers, a DJ, us and maybe something else too on stage. If you're interested in knowing what the next album is gonna sound like, you should attend, since our setlist will focus on the new material. If you're a skater, take part in the competition and you'll have free entrance for the show.

This is not a "we're breaking up" -statement

Time for some news. A few weeks ago we played at Lepakkomies and had a killer time. Thanks to everyone who showed up and especially the organizer Manu and the ones who attended the pit and bought some merch. We're really broke so every euro meant a lot (a liner note: we do ship our merch outside Finland as well, in case you didn't know, haha) - thanks a million! I heard someone shot some video footage of the show, maybe it'll end up somewhere in the internet, I don't know. Hope so.

As for shows in general: we decided to take a break from doing them. At least till the end of this year. Today our drummer Aki started his personal journey on "becoming a man" in the finnish military service and it will naturally take a lot of time away from him during these next 6-12 months.

That alone isn't the reason though. Since we live in two different cities nowadays, getting into rehearsals isn't as easy as it used to be - now we're lucky if we get there even once a month - so we are forced to move forward slower than before. Right now it's more important for us to get new material done, since we're all pretty tired of our old songs. I'm pretty sure everyone who's been in the same band long enough has experienced this state of mind. You know what I'm talking about, right?

I also believe that as a group, we're at the point of make or break: to either find that red line, that spark, the connection that will keep us together - or to simply realize that we've grown too far apart to keep this thing as fun, entertaining and inspiring as it was when we started out. That being said, these next 12 months will be very crucial. Let's see how they turn out and what's to become. One thing is for sure though: we will get back on stage, when the time is right for it.

In the meantime you can keep an eye on our other projects: Temsu will continue making grind and noise in his other bands Hävitys, Synti and Flash Gordon & the Masters of the Universe. Santeri's new band SATAMA is about to release their first release some time soon. I heard their stuff is pretty heavily influenced by some Dischord-bands from the 90's, so I bet it'll be interesting. At least I'm looking forward to it! As for me, I try to get my personal shit together and keep myself busy with writing. I'm currently in the middle of this bigger project that will hopefully see daylight some time next year and then I have this blog, where I write some shorter stuff, like poems and such, whenever I feel like it.

So, like the title says: this is not a "we're breaking up" -statement. This is the exact opposite of that. We're still friends, we still hang out and we are writing new songs. We're just gonna stay underground for a while now, but when we get back up, we're gonna get back up stronger than ever.

So, the tour is now over. It was great and I would like to thank everyone involved in it. Special thanks to the Lighthouse Project guys and our driver Aapo. You guys were awesome! To everyone we met during the trip: it was great getting to know you all and I hope we get so see you again some other time.

2012 revisited

Okay, so, the year is coming to an end and I thought I should write some thoughts down about this year and tell you a little bit of the plans we have for 2013.

This year we had lots of things happening. Recorded and released What I've Seen, had a bunch of shows and got to play outside Finland for the first time. This year truly had some positive surprises - for example, the show we got to play with the Adolescents or the incredible response we had at our shows during our first European tour - and I'm really grateful for all of them. For me, personally, this year has been pretty much the worst year I have ever had in my life and words can't describe the importance this band and all the things related to it has for me. Thanks for keeping me alive. Especially you, Aki, Santeri and Temsu. Love you guys.

Next year our drummer Aki will start his military service, so I guess we're gonna be pretty quiet for a while when that happens, but during the first six months of 2013 we're gonna play some shows and possibly record some new songs too. We were supposed to do a weekend tour with Pigeon Hunt and Iron Boris in the middle of January, but Pigeon Hunt had to cancel, so we're only gonna do the show we have with Iron Boris in Helsinki on Thursday the 17th. During March/April we're gonna do a bunch of shows with Lighthouse Project. Right now we have shows booked to Finland, Denmark and Germany but there's still plenty of open dates left. If you want us to play somewhere near you, email me.

Newsflash, November 2012

We got some news for you. Yeah we do.

Last weekend I got myself some copies of this live cassette our friend Jouni put out through his label Johnny Park Avenue Records. It's got two of our shows from this year: Ilokivi, Jyväskylä from this spring and Suisto, Hämeenlinna from this fall. The latter one had a bit dramatic ending, so to speak.. You can get a hint of what happened from the cassette's cover.

You can get the cassette from the label, or straight from us. Buy it with the 10-inch and get them at the price of 15 euros, including postages. 







We're playing our last show of the year next month and it'll be a special one. If you can make it, get in, get crazy. Let's make it a show to remember.

Weekend tour with Pigeon Hunt, January 2013

EUROPEAN TOUR WITH LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT - HELP US OUT!

ATTENTION to all of you OUTSIDE FINLAND!!

Pretty stoked on this one. We are going to tour Europe next spring with the great LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT. These guys were the ones who were playing on the first hardcore shows we went to and the ones whose lyrics I've written on my school notebook covers countless of times.

I'm doing the booking myself and would really appreciate some help with this one. If you can help us out in any way, send me an email to totalrecallhc@gmail.com. I'm interested in all dates from late April to early June. We will play pretty much anywhere and the only thing we need is enough money to pay for gas. Of course things like food and a place to sleep would be nice as well.

Hopefully we'll see you on the road next year!

July 2012

What's up? So we've been doing lots of things recently, haven't had the time to update this page for a while. The tour with Antiklimax went great. Thanks to everyone who came to see us, gave us a place to sleep, hung out with us, bought our records and shirts and to the venues and their people. We had a blast. I'll write some more about the trip later.

Last weekend we played at Hässäkkä-päivät -festival in Oulu. We put up a few videos from the show on our YouTube -channel. If you weren't there, go check them out. Next month we'll play at Helsinki as the warm-up for the Adolescents. Damn... If you're around, see you there! Until then, go pick up your copy of What I've Seen and be sure to check this site every now and then for updates. I'll try to keep you on the map with our stuff.

By the way, I'm starting to arrange some shows for us for the upcoming winter / next spring. If you want us to come to your town, were it anywhere in the world, please: write me and let me know where to go, who to ask, etc. We will be there, if possible.
